Outdoor Activities

sunsetThe hills of Hecla and Ben Môr are not the only areas of the island devoid of people.

The miles of white sand beach often have nobody on them and the wildflower meadows of the machair will usually see only the crofters who maintain the fragile and diverse eco-system through careful grazing, coastal protection work and use of seaweed as a natural fertiliser.

view from Grogarry LodgeA Scottish Natural Heritage National Nature Reserve can be seen from the lodge and many areas of the island have been designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest, Environmentally Sensitive Areas or other designations denoting the presence of a rare bird, insect or plant.

Using local partners arranged by the lodge, guests have the opportunity to enjoy guided walks in the hills, in the coastal area and to some of the many historical sites dotted nearby.
